David Madden taught in the Groton (CT) public school system for 35 years. His decision to become a teacher was inspired by his love of history, which was, in turn, inspired by a field trip to Old Sturbridge Village he took with his 5th grade class from Lincoln School in Manchester, CT. His first book is a book of poems for children about Old Sturbridge Village entitled Sprung from the Soil. He joined the Religious Society of Friends in 1999 and has had the privilege of serving as clerk of the Westerly (RI) Monthly Meeting.
